Interior Design for New Build Retirement Village The Shires in Moseley
Michael Blanning Trust Housing Association needed the interior design for a new luxury retirement village, The Shires, set within beautiful communal gardens on the doorstep of Moseley, a historic Birmingham suburb voted "The Best Urban Place to Live" by The Sunday Times. The brief spanned an ambitious mix of spaces: 72 luxurious one- and two-bedroom apartments, a guest suite, restaurant, bar/lounge, hair salon, wellbeing suite, craft room, library, shop, village hall, and outdoor dining and relaxation areas, all needing to support both independent and social living for residents.

Every area was designed with independent yet social living in mind, creating a vibrant, purpose-built community where residents could get the most from retirement, a place where old friends are welcomed and new friendships form around shared interests and passions. The interiors were designed to five-star quality with a beautiful, contemporary style to match the exceptional build quality, working with furniture solutions provider Collaborate to source furniture that complemented the surrounding artwork and colour schemes throughout.
The Outcome
The result is a genuinely vibrant retirement community, where a strong sense of community sits at the heart of everyday life across all 72 apartments and shared spaces. From the restaurant and bar/lounge to the wellbeing suite and craft room, The Shires gives residents a five-star setting that matches the calibre of its Moseley location.
