Extra Care Scheme for Trent and Dove in Burton-On-Trent
Building on a strong existing relationship with Trent and Dove, we were commissioned for St John's Church Land, an extra care scheme in Burton-on-Trent, this time providing sheltered housing across 28 units. The site sits surrounded by existing residential areas, which had to be at the forefront of every design decision, from the massing down to the materials.

Our Response
The brief called for a genuinely different colour palette and concept. The design is built around different aspects of outside space, resulting in a 'bring the outside, inside' approach with close attention paid to exterior materials, planting and surrounding views to root the scheme in its residential context. Constant dialogue with Ainsley Gommon Architects kept the design consistent across the whole scheme throughout the process.
The Outcome
The finished development comprises 28 apartments, complete with a large resident's lounge and coffee bar, multi-purpose hobby spaces, and south-facing landscaped gardens. The building was designed to meet BREEAM Very Good and full accessibility throughout, with level routes across the scheme including the garden areas, lift access to the first floor, and a fully accessible bathroom for residents.
