St George's Close
Refurbishment of a 1960s House
The brief was to transform a 1960’s prairie-style architect designed house into a contemporary and open plan house. The ground floor was opened up to great a larger kitchen / dining space to create a relationship to the exterior courtyard spaces whilst a separate formal living room and music room were retained.
A new “zen” outside space was created off the main hallway, drama added with an open tread staircase, whilst externally the house was improved with a new ‘urban’ front door and canopy, as well as new windows.
The refurbishment retained the character of the original house but brought it into the 21st Century in terms of layout and thermal performance and comfort.
