Before & After

Every great project starts with potential. Sometimes it's a tired building waiting to be reimagined, an underused workspace ready for new life, or a home that no longer meets the needs of the people living in it. Through thoughtful architecture and interior design, these spaces can be transformed into places that are not only beautiful, but work better for the people who use them every day.

Here are a few our our project "before" to "after" journeys:

The Pig & Tail Pub in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter

We transformed the dilapidated Grade II listed George and Dragon pub in the heart of Birmingham's historic Jewellery Quarter into a vibrant new pub The Pig & Tail (now Temper & Brown) which remains a thriving hub for the local community and beyond. The building had stood empty for 21 years, so careful restoration was required to keep it's original features and character. The project was awarded the 2016 Birmingham Civic Society Renaissance Award.

New Build Social Housing in Bishops Cleeve

The creation of new social housing sites Eversfield Close and Bishops Drive are part of our ongoing work in Bishops Cleeve with Rooftop Housing Group, which spans nearly 20 years, transforming old garage sites and sites that were previously unfit for purpose into new social housing schemes. This ambitious project over 2 sites began with an initial design collaboration with Hemingway Design and a consultation with the local community. The feedback collected during this consultation was key in shaping the vision for the development and used to refine the design to ensure both aesthetic and practical needs were met for future residents.

Workplace Refurbishment for the British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy

We completely transformed this dated workplace in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter, which covers 4 floors including a basement of a Grade II listed building, blending the rich historical character of the building with the dynamic needs of a modern workplace. The design is modern industrial  to reflect the former character of the building, mixing elements such as exposed brick and beams with contemporary features such as glass partitions, sleek furniture, and strategically placed lighting to create a modern yet grounded aesthetic.

101 Bath Street, Birmingham

The conversion of a Grade II listed office building into four luxury apartments and one 3 storey townhouse in Birmingham city centre for Asquith Homes. The apartments are thoughtfully designed with large open plan kitchen/living room areas, making the most of the living space and natural light. Original features of the building have been preserved, such as the grand central front entrance doorway, and the existing wooden queens post trusses in the top floor apartment, which offer a unique feature. More head height has been created in the roof apartment by lowering the floor level for a more comfortable living space.

Birmingham Metropolitan College, Matthew Boulton Front Plaza

The college found that the existing openness of the plaza to the pavement and highway led to anti-social behaviour from passers by and wanted a more secure and enjoyable space for students to use. Our solution was a more aesthetically pleasing and defined area, with green walls and trees to improve the urban landscape. We included a drop off zone, external furniture, green wall to divide the space from the parking area, feature planting and lights, and a smoking shelter in the parking area.
