Eversfield Close New Build Social Housing in Bishops Cleeve

Eversfield Close forms part of nearly 20 years of ongoing work with Rooftop Housing Group in Bishops Cleeve, transforming sites previously unfit for purpose into new social housing schemes. The brief called for a balanced mix of homes for rent and shared ownership, including two fully Part M-compliant ground floor apartments, alongside ample parking and dedicated community spaces, all designed to give residents a genuine sense of connection and belonging within the wider community.
The completed development regenerated a 1960s housing and garage site, once built for local Smiths Industries workers, into 28 new homes: 10 apartments and 18 houses across a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom properties for social rent and shared ownership.
The project began with an initial design collaboration with Hemingway Design, alongside consultation with the local community, whose feedback directly shaped the vision for the development and helped refine the design to meet both aesthetic and practical needs. The houses and apartment buildings take the form of a contemporary terrace with feature gable ends, creating a sense of rhythm and a charming yet modern streetscape. Behind that architectural ambition, the layouts remain genuinely practical, energy efficient, designed to reduce maintenance in consultation with the maintenance team, and kept cost-effective through close collaboration with the cost consultant throughout.

The Outcome
"My relationship goes back at least 20 years. We had a project when I moved to an organisation called Rooftop Housing who specialise in working with gypsies and travellers and Kevin and The Space Studio pitched to provide the gypsy and traveller community some brand new homes / pods and did an absolutely amazing job using off-site construction. This grew into developing garage sites in Bishop's Cleeve near Cheltenham. The team designed across at least four sites, circa 50 brand new homes with contemporary design, absolutely amazing properties and I recognised that quality was what The Space Studio was all about.
