Interior Scheme for Reconfigured Bungalow for Extra Care Support
We were commissioned to develop an interior scheme for a specially reconfigured bungalow for young adults with varying levels of learning disabilities, comprising one permanent resident's suite and three further en-suite bedrooms with private lounges for respite care. The key challenge was to create a domestic, warm and comfortable environment while still meeting the necessary care requirements, durability and robustness that the setting demanded.
The Challenge
Our Response
A large communal dining room leads out onto a veranda overlooking the re-landscaped garden, anchoring the scheme's sense of home. Each suite was given its own distinct colour scheme, using a considered blend of upholsteries in rich tones, painted feature walls and fabric panel artwork to create a bright, welcoming feel throughout. During the design process, we held a coffee morning with service users and their families to gather feedback and approval on the proposed colour schemes and furniture selection, and tendered all FF&E items to ensure best value for the client.
The Outcome
The result is a genuinely domestic, warm interior that balances comfort with the practical demands of a care setting, giving residents and respite guests suites with their own distinct character, alongside shared spaces designed around real feedback from the people who use them.
