New Build Primary School Allens Croft
As part of Birmingham City Council's schools programme, Willmott Dixon commissioned us to develop the Acivico scheme and design a new-build two-storey building for Allens Croft Primary School in Kings Heath, Birmingham. The brief was to provide additional classrooms for the existing PFI school, a building that needed to work hard functionally while integrating with the school's existing identity and infrastructure.
The Challenge
Our Response
The design is organised around a central corridor, with eight general teaching rooms distributed across the two floors. Construction was based on the prefabricated Insushell system, which called for detailed coordination between design, structure and services throughout the process. Aesthetically, the scheme is predominantly dark grey cladding with a feature area in light grey, a considered, grounded palette lifted by colour at the deep window reveals, drawn from the school's own blue and yellow.
The Outcome
The result is a new two-storey teaching building that gives Allen's Croft Primary School the extra classroom capacity it needed, delivered through an efficient prefabricated construction method and finished with a distinct, school-specific identity that ties the new build back to the community it serves.
