Kevin W Singh RIBA NTF FRSA

Director / Chartered Architect

Alongside being a Director of TKA Space Studio, Kevin is Head of the Manchester School of Architecture, after many years as Head of Birmingham School of Architecture and Design at Birmingham City University. He was conferred as a Professor of Architecture in 2013 and awarded a prestigious National Teaching Fellowship in 2015. He studied at Birmingham Polytechnic and also at The Bartlett, University College London where he studied in Peter Cook’s Unit. 

He is heavily involved with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), sitting on national Education Committee, and chairing validation panels at other Universities in the UK and abroad. He is an external examiner for BA Architecture at London South Bank University and also at Sheffield Hallam University for BA Interior Design in both Sheffield and at their campus in Malaysia.

 

He is also a Trustee and Board Member of DanceXChange, a community dance organisation in Birmingham.

Loves: Man City, curry, collecting vinyl, reading novels, travel, teaching, networking 

Guilty Pleasure: I do love a good musical! The Phantom of the Opera being a particular favourite.

Claim to Fame: I worked on a number of projects for my favourite football team Manchester City including concept designs for a fan zone, memorial garden, external landscaping, and a VIP fan experience. 

Hidden Talent: I love a bit of karaoke with New York, New York being my signature tune! 

Pet Hates: I hate emptying the dishwasher and hanging washing up to dry!

Paul Robinson

Associate / Architect

Paul is an Associate at TKA Space Studio and an Architect with over 25 years’ experience in a variety of construction sectors. He initially trained as an Architectural Technician before qualifying as an Architect through a desire to expand his knowledge and ability. Paul has an excellent background of working closely with clients and is an experienced job runner of projects ranging from small domestic extensions up to £10m projects. He is skilled in AutoCAD, Sketch-up and Photoshop.

His qualifications include: BA(Hons) Architecture, PG Dip Architecture and PG Dip Arch Practice at Birmingham City University.

 

Loves: My dog Alfie, cars, music and especially vinyl, films, motor racing

Guilty Pleasure: Pet Shop Boys and collecting Star Wars Toys!

Wasim Akram

 

Architectural Technologist 

Wasim is an experienced Architectural Technician who qualified in 2019 and has been in practice working on a range of projects in the Residential, Commercial and Industrial sectors. Working closely with clients is something Wasim is very comfortable with, he has a keen eye for detail and a desire to further develop his technical design knowledge. As well as technical design, Wasim has an interest in Interior Design work and completing 3D models to bring his designs to life for our clients.

 

His qualifications include BSc Hons in Architectural Technology from Birmingham City University and is proficient in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop and Enscape.

Loves: Travelling, exploring different cuisines, football and Marvel movies.

Guilty Pleasure: Playing FIFA for hours on end.

Claim to Fame: I once met Hulk Hogan.

Hidden Talent: I can squat 140kg.

Pet Hates: People who talk loudly in the cinema.

Pip

 

Barketing Manager

Pip is a Lhasa Apso and has been part of the team since the merger with TKA.  At ten years old he has been around the block a few times, normally twice a day after meals. He is always available if fuss needs to be given or if the biscuit tin has been opened.

In Tibet, the Lhasa Apso goes by his original name, Abso Seng Kye, which means Bark Lion Sentinel Dog. Lhasas guarded Tibetan dwellings from the inside — while Mastiffs guarded outside — and would bark to alert the humans of any potential intruders. The Lhasa Apso was also associated with the mythical Snow Lion, which Tibetans believe to be a guardian of their country.

Pip is also responsible for the shredding and recycling of unwanted junk mail.

Loves: Gravy Bones or any treat!

Guilty Pleasure: Butt sniffing

Claim to Fame: Re-enacting the scene from Fenton!

Hidden Talent: Finding discarded chicken bones in the Jewellery Quarter

Tony Kerby MCSD

Director 

Tony is one of the Director's of TKA Space Studio, and has over 30 years of experience in the construction and design industries. 

He has strong experience firstly as an apprentice joiner through to project manager to chartered designer. He also has experience in large scale job running, projects both at home and abroad, and government and local authority projects. 

He has a strong link to education, and is a visiting tutor at Birmingham City University.

His qualifications include: BA Hons First Class Interior Design at Birmingham City University, Ccert Building and Construction Techniques BCC, and Chartered Designer since 2002.

Loves: Music production, skiing and sci-fi films.

Guilty Pleasure: Chocolate!

Claim to Fame: I hit Lenny Henry in the face with a flan on TISWAS.

Hidden Talent: I make a really good risotto.

Verneek Virdi

Associate / Architectural Technician

Verneek is a capable and experienced Architectural Technician with over 10 years post graduate experience in a range of construction sectors. He has worked on many projects, with varying budgets and sizes.

His qualifications include BSc Hons in Architectural Technology, and is skilled in ArchiCAD, and 3D Modeling Sketch-up.

Loves: Spending time with my family,

Guilty Pleasure: Biscuits.. or any snack I can find in the office...

Claim to Fame: My first name is very rare!

Hidden Talent: Wing Chun enthusiast.

Chen Qi

 

Architectural Assistant

Chen works at TKA Space Studio as an Architectural Assistant and has a multi-disciplinary background in graphics design, urban planning and architectural design. He was awarded 1st place for an architectural pavilion in the 2019 International Bamboo Construction Competition in Beijing where it still stands.

 

His qualification includes RIBA Part 1 (BA) and Part 2 (MArch) as well as RTPI Bachelors in Urban Planning. His proficiencies include visualisation, 3D modelling, BIM modelling as well as graphics design

Loves: My pet cat Mimi, pandas and bouldering.

Guilty Pleasure: Ramen.

Claim to Fame: 3rd Place in men's physique at the MASS bodybuilding competition.

Hidden Talent: Semi fluent in French.

Pet Hates: Dirty dishes.

Holly Alexander-Priest

 

Studio Manager

Holly has worked at TKA Space Studio since summer 2017. She has experience in customer service, marketing, administration, photography, and has strong people skills. 

Previous roles include Promotional Model representing various brands and companies at photo shoots, trade shows, and events, Cabin Crew for Emirates airline where she enjoyed travel and meeting a wide range of people, and Retail Supervisor, working in a fast paced and customer focused environment.

Loves: My pets (snake called Macaroni, bearded dragon called Lars, and black cat called Shadow), socialising, seeing new places. 

Guilty Pleasure: Binge watching various TV series. 

Claim to Fame: I have appeared on Crimewatch ... (as an actress!) And been on BBC's Doctors as a walk on/extra a fair few times.

Hidden Talent: I'm also a model & photographer.

Troy Kidsley RIBA

Director / Chartered Architect

Troy is one of the three Directors of TKA Space Studio. Starting in practice in 1986, he has over 35 years’ experience, firstly training as an Architectural Technician, later qualifying as an Architect. 

 

After qualifying, he worked with Mark Humphries Millennium Lofts in the mid 1990’s and designed a number of the original factory conversions in and around the Jewellery Quarter. Later moving to Geoffrey Reid Associates (now 3D Reid), Troy was involved in the procurement of substantial urban, retail and leisure projects up to £50m in contract value.

 

Having developed skills in affordable housing design, Troy has now become forefront in the development of offsite housing, designing, and supplying the EcoPod Housing system through his separate company EcoPod Homes Ltd.  The Architectural practice now helps many Registered Providers across the UK with their offsite design requirements.

Loves: Motorsport, particularly F1, going to the Cinema, A good night out, cooking a curry

Guilty Pleasure: Watching live music in intimate venues

Claim to Fame: KK Downing of Judas Priest made me a bacon sandwich, on two occasions!!

Hidden Talent: Model making

Chris Taylor

 

Senior Architect

Chris comes from a family construction background with projects including a self-built family home. He studied architecture in the University of Manchester as a mature student and graduated with distinction. He now has around twenty years’ experience as an RIBA Chartered architect.

 

Over the time Chris has developed a special interest in housing that is both affordable and sustainable; from modern apartments to revitalising neglected dwellings, but has also worked within the commercial and education sectors. His experience ranges from conceptual design to producing and coordinating construction information on site and has a keen interest in utilising modern building information technology. More recently, Chris gained an MA in Urban Design at Leeds Beckett University and finds various aspects of this useful in everyday practice.

Loves: My pet cat Libby (on a good day!)

Guilty Pleasure: Rummaging through the vinyl records.

Claim to Fame: A close up TV appearance on Granada Reports going up a funicular lift in the Manchester Urbis Centre. 

Hidden Talent: Once did pantomime…Oh yes I did...

Pet Hates: Crowded trains (especially when they don’t move up the carriage to the empty seats!)

Lydia Smith

 

Interior Designer

Lydia joined TKA Space Studio after graduating in 2021 with a First Class Degree in Interior Architecture and Design at De Montfort University, Leicester.

She has proven to be passionate about design, with a natural artistic flair, and excellent attention to detail. 

She is also knowledgeable in a variety of computer design software such as Sketch Up, AutoCAD, Lumion, Enscape, and Adobe and Microsoft programs.

During her first few weeks at the space* studio she has successfully assisted on a variety of live projects.

Loves: Chocolate, my little staffy Lola, the beach and big hugs.

Guilty Pleasure: Tea and a few too many biscuits..(hide your biscuit tins) 

Claim to Fame: I once served Becky Hill a pizza.

Hidden Talent: I am a trained Kickboxer – watch out 😉

Pet Hates: Negative people, spam emails.
