#594 Old Cinema, Hinckley

Apartment Scheme

The site is currently occupied by a disused and somewhat derelict Canon Cinema. The brief was to design a quality affordable housing scheme with ground floor retail and 29 apartments above with a mix of one and two beds.

The massing of the proposal builds up to the prominent corner to reflect the current building and then steps down to a more modest scale to the adjacent neighbouring houses. The horizontal emphasis also reflects the era and again makes reference to the corner site. Parking is situated at the rear of the building.

Due to the history of the site, the scheme seeks to draw reference from the art deco cinema building and buildings of that era with contemporary interpretations via quality and detailed brickwork, bronze panels, and intricate metalwork.
