#352 Harborne Cricket Club

Cricket Club Design

Three versions of the concept design for Harborne Cricket Club were produced ranging from a complete new build to part refurbishment to help the club appreciate the possibilities and the costs involved. All proposals provided additional social and sporting facilities to help the club develop in sporting and business terms.

The facade of the design is based on the conceptual idea of a batsman's innings. Often defensive at the start, the bowler would be faced with a full view of the bat. However, as the innings progresses and flourishes, more attacking shots are played resulting in the thinner edges of the bat being displayed. The facade is therefore made up of a combination of wider and thinner timber blades which capture the spirit of the batsman's innings. The consequent reduction in glazing helps control the temperature inside and also reduce the costs associated with large areas of glazing.
