The Space* Studio: Domestic Project

New external courtyard and wet room created

The brief was to transform a typical 1970’s chalet-style house into a contemporary and open plan house. The ground floor was made as open plan as possible to maximise on views and daylight, including an open tread staircase, views through the house from the front door, and a large expanse of folding/sliding doors at the rear.

 

On the upper floor the theme of openness and natural light was continued by removing the existing flat ceilings to open up the master bedroom to the steep roof pitch, which, with new electronic rooflights creates a dramatic and light volume.

 

The exterior of the house was rendered and a new front door completes the transformation from a tired dwelling to one bursting with energy and light.
