25 St Pauls Square
New Build Apartment Scheme
Following our successful planning application on the adjacent plot which featured the conversion of the existing street facing building into offices with luxury apartments above along with a townhouse mews development in the rear courtyard, we were commissioned by the original landowner to design a landmark building on the vacant corner car park site located on the corner of the prestigious St Paul’s Square in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter.
As the last empty plot on the Square, context demanded a strong, signature corner building which is contemporary but reflects the Victorian and industrial heritage of the Jewellery Quarter. We worked very closely with the city council planning authority and had approval from the Conservation and Heritage Panel, as well as the Civic Society Planning Group. The proposal was for a contemporary yet contextual building with commercial ground floor use with the upper floors housing only one apartment on each floor. The design also included an additional storey on the adjacent existing building to help re-balance the street scene.
