We were commissioned by the managing agents, Bigwood Chartered Surveyors to make proposals for refurbishing two identical prestigious apartment blocks designed by Birmingham's acclaimed modernist architect John Madin.
Despite being set in picturesque grounds, and being large apartments, the communal interior spaces were in need of a face lift to keep pace with other prestigious apartment schemes in the city.
Our proposals were focused on making the spaces lighter, through more appropriate materials and also feature artificial lighting. The central stairwell is to became a feature through wall finishes and lighting, and the heavy timber balustrade is to be replaced by a lighter, contemporary glass and steel balustrade.
Whilst the apartment interiors remain individually styled by their owners, the proposals included a consistent approach to signage, door numbers, ironmongery, and doormats, to bring a sense of order.
The design process included numerous residents meetings and consultation before the final proposals were made.
