Penthouse 6,

Ludgate Lofts, Birmingham

Client: Neil Emblen
Contractor: Quickfix
Completion: September 1998

This unique, contemporary and spacious loft apartment was designed for a professional footballer. Although the loft had two levels, conventions were ignored, as the private spaces (bedroom and bathroom) were located on the lower level that could be by-passed by visitors.

This allowed the top floor with its views across the city to be as open plan as possible, principally housing a kitchen, dining area, and living space.

...although the loft had two levels, conventions were ignored...

The over riding geometry of the design was the square (taken from the existing windows), a motif that even found it's way into the storage walls and the furniture design. The play between the new interior and the old warehouse building was emphasised by the geometry, materials, lighting, and colour.
