MADE (Midlands Architecture & the Designed Environment)

122 Fazeley Street , Digbeth, Birmingham

Client: MADE
Contractor: Ashlar
Completion: October 2005

MADE is the architecture centre for the entire West Midlands region: urban, suburban and rural areas. They foster and promote excellence in the designed environment: buildings, places and public spaces, including parks and green spaces.

It was therefore very flattering to be commissioned to oversee the refurbishment of this listed building for their new headquarters building on the edge of the Warwick Bar site.

...The key inspiration was the neon green "Pharmacy" 'cross' lights which are most common in mainland Europe...

On a very tight budget, the whole building was revamped including floors, walls, and furniture, as well as completely new areas such as disabled wc facilities, a staff 'chill out' space, and sympathetic shutters for

security.

The result is a contemporary working environment which remains sympathetic

to the character of this listed building.
