Ikon Gallery, Brindleyplace, Birmingham
Client: Tapas at Ikon / Anne Galloway
Contractor: Form, Space & Order
Completion: December 1998
Cafe Ikon is a traditional Spanish tapas bar set within the exciting and award winning Ikon Gallery in Birmingham's prestigious Brindleyplace development adjacent to the International Convention Centre.
We were commissioned to transform the existing cafe into an atmospheric and completely branded eatery. This was achieved primarily through the addition of a polished plaster feature wall that refers to the concrete shuttered entrance space of the gallery itself.
The lighting scheme, furniture, branding, and glazing were also revamped. The design was developed closely with the client who had a strong vision for the restaurant.
"The cafe is lovely and full of light, and the niches with their extraordinary liquid and luminous collages of real fruit and vegetables are amazing. It is a wonderfully energetic place to eat and meet."
