Unit 5, Fort Dunlop, Birmingham

Client: Voice Solutions
Contractors: IDQ Refurbishment

Structural Engineers: Halcrow Youlles, Worcester.
Completion: December 2006

This refurbishment project is part of Urban Splash's impressive redevelopment of the iconic Fort Dunlop building adjacent to the M6.

The design for a business to business mobile phone retail outlet, and call centre, responds to the imposing industrial aesthtic of the building, whilst using a number of contemporary insertions to reflect the nature of the business, and company ethos.

...the design responds to the imposing industrial aesthetic of the building....to create a contemporary and efficient working environment.

The design includes a retail area at the front, a call centre, staff areas, a number of private offices, and a large open plan boardroom on the feature mezzanine which overlooks the entrance and retail area.

Aesthetically the design has contemporary elements such as large areas

of frameless galzing, coloured glazing, dramatic lighting, and one

whole wall dedicated to a large photographic montage of Birmingham city

centre's skyline. The mezzanine provides the client with additional floor space despite the restrictive floor to ceiling heights offered by the building. The structural design and manipulation of space around the mezzanine helps to create a contemporary and efficient working environment.

This project represents our first collaboration with IDQ Refurbishment in which offer a complete turn key solution for clients from inception to built completion.
