Hydrotherapy Pool

Foxfield Drive, Oldswinford

Client: James Allport
Contractor: David Allport
Completion: Expected July 2006

The project is for an extension to a large, existing bungalow, and involves a new hydrotherapy pool room, along with some reconfiguration of the existing property.

The pool, used for rehabilitation, is linked to the existing bungalow via a glazed walkway that emphasises the separation from the main house. The physiotherapy room, which will be incorporated into the existing space, will use recycled heat from the pool area to heat it. The pool area has been carefully positioned on the site in terms of its orientation to allow heat loss to maintain a constant temperature of 34 degrees C, with running costs in mind.

...lighting scheme brings a drama to the space at night...

The pool house is contemporary in appearance with cedar boarding, and various types of zinc which minimise any maintenance issues. The front elevation has floor to ceiling windows which are gradually obscured from the ground upwards, whilst privacy issues mean that elsewhere high level windows are rooflights are used.

The artificial lighting scheme brings a drama to the space at night, creating a clear contrast to the experience in the daytime.

The images shown are proposals prior to the planning application stage.
