Birmingham City University rebranding signage project,

Various campuses including: City North, Edgbaston, Gosta Green, NTI, Margaret Street, Vittoria Street, Moor Lane sports ground, Bournville, The Conservatoire.

Client: Birmingham City University
Contractor: Big Sky Banners
Status: Completed December 2007

In the Autumn of 2007, The University of Central England changed its name to Birmingham City University.

As part of the re-branding exercise we were commissioned to co-ordinate

the external feature signage on 9 different campuses around the city.

... a stunning collection of powerful signs.....a significant contribution to the brand recognition.

Working closely with signage specialists, Big Sky Banners, we designed a

proportioning system to ensure that regardless of location the signs had a certain consistency about them.

The majority of the signs are large, high-impact fabric vertical banners to supplement existing (and revised) low level signage. These banners were specifically positioned for maximum visual impact for passing

pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

Each building represented a different challenge, including a grade 2* listed building, various existing cladding systems, co-ordinating with a new cladding installation, as well as other local conditions.

The result is not only a stunning collection of powerful signs which identify the Universities various buildings, but also a significant contribution to the recognition of the new brand.
