Vinappris wine bar and Sky TV channel, Fort Dunlop, Birmingham
Client: Steve and John Bennett
Status: Completed March 2007 |
The concept design was produced overnight to secure the much in demand space at Fort Dunlop following the client being let down by another designer. The vast majority of these initial concepts were developed into a stunning and finely crafted interior.
Vinappris TV is a revolutionary Sky TV channel, educating viewers about wine as well as selling it. The concept is that the wine bar acts as a living, breathing backdrop to the live television pictures and at times the filming moves into the wine bar for customer wine tasting sessions. The bar has 2 key features, a huge floating slatted canopy reminiscent of a wine cellar and a glass enclosed refridgerated 'wall of wine' with sliding library style ladders which chills both red and white wine to perfect temperatures. The design had to deal with a huge amount of mechanical and electrical requirements and these were successfully accommodated, either hidden or on display where appropriate in keeping with the industrial aesthetic of Fort Dunlop. The bar area itself is lit by a huge light-table like canopy from which wine glass storage is suspended.
