Thornton Tomasetti UK Headquarters, Farringdon, London
Client: Thornton Tomasetti
Status: Completed May 2007 |
This scheme represents the global structural engineering firms first office in the UK. The design is deliberately industrial and raw, reflecting both the building's history but also the client's ethos yet also meeting all of the standards consumate with the Thornton Tomasetti worldwide brand. All of this was achieved within a very tight timescale.
Another key consideration was the fact that the company were unsure of how dramatic their expansion would be given their previous lack of a presence in London so flexibility was paramount. The space is organised and articulated using the existing cast iron columns with the main working space set to the side with the natural daylight. The workspace organisation and furniture is simple yet refined with white desks set diagonally to the space, each with individual pedestals and ergonomically designed chairs.
