Shawcross Walk, Port Street, Evesham
Client: Rooftop Housing Group
Status: Completed February 2010 |
The Rooftop Housing Group purchased Shawcross Walk in 2009 with its continued interest in providing good quality affordable housing within the Evesham Area. The site and the flats were in a very bad state of repair. Engaging with the local residents was key to the success of the refurbishment.
The overall concept was to create a ‘mews’ like feel to the site bringing a sense of community for the new residents. A new secure entrance area was designed which included a fob entry system and remote CCTV alongside using graffiti-resistant materials to the front entrance doors.
Private gardens were removed and a new communal ‘courtyard garden’ was created to help maximise the open views to the flats as well as address the dda compliance required for the site.
We worked with a local artist to help create a ‘street art’ piece of sculpture that sits within the courtyard garden.
key points
- bring a sense of community spirit in a 'mews' like development whilst addressing issues of security and vandalism.
- extensive liason with tenants and potential residents
- fully landscaped courtyard garden
