This mixed-use scheme is centred around an existing three storey Art Deco corner building adjacent to a retail park. The design forms a horseshoe arrangement to maximise on street frontage whilst an additional penthouse storey has been added to the existing building which then continues around the site perimeter.
The uses include approximately 25,000 sq ft of new retail and leisure space, and 4 duplex apartments. The elevations are articulated with a series of random panels in various tones of leather colours, drawing reference from Walsall's leather making heritage. The penthouse storey is set back from the existing building line and is capped with a lightweight roof to emphasis the juxtaposition of the new and the old. The massing of the development maximises on natural daylight whilst creating a central parking zone and delivery service yard.
