Recruitment & Selection Policy
March 2009
Our Recruitment and Selection Policy ensures an adequate and relevant staffing profile through the recruitment of suitable resources to meet our practice profile. The policy ensures the following:
Effectiveness - producing enough suitable candidates and distinguishing accurately between both the suitable and unsuitable.
Efficiency – ensuring we use contacts via existing members of staff and our strong relationship with Birmingham City University to select applicants.
Fairness - maintaining our strong profile with existing employees and potential recruits alike, by dealing fairly, honestly and courteously with all applicants.
The space studio has committed itself to an Equal Opportunities in Employment Policy for all its existing and potential employees. The aim of the Policy is to eliminate unfair and unlawful discrimination, confirming our status as an “Equal Opportunities Employer”.
Job description / Personnel Specification
Every job, without exception, has a written job description listing the main duties and responsibilities. The Directors have always discussed any potential job vacancy and its description with existing employees to project a clear and open management stance. Any person specification which already exists for a particular job is reviewed, taking full account of the job description and allowing younger members of staff to develop, take on more responsibility and move up through the practice.
Remuneration / Ongoing Appraisal System
We have a strong framework for our pay structure which ensures staff members are rewarded according to their skills and ability. We conduct staff appraisals annually whereby staff are encouraged to talk freely about their existing positions and where they see their future.
Every employee has a written contract which includes details of general terms and conditions including their line manager and disciplinary procedures adopted by the practice.
