Premier Inn, Earlsdon Phase 4, Coventry
Client: Premier Inn
Status: December 2011
|
The project was to transform a dilapidated former technical college building of local importance on the edge of Coventry city centre into a 100 bedroom hotel as part of the MCD Developments regeneration of the Earlsdon area within only an 11 month programme. This was achieved by close collaboration with the main contractor, sub contractors and consultant team.
The hotel occupies the existing top floor of the building and also a new contemporary lightweight storey above. The other main feature was the creation of a double height internal atrium space within the new foyer to provide a sense of arrival as well as to reveal a number of existing art-deco interior features. Elsewhere, the challenge of implementing strict brand guidelines within the confines of an existing building was successfully met by the close collaboration of our architecture and interior design teams.
key points
- commissioned after planning permission was already achieved
- strict acoustic requirements achieved despite existing structure
- during the project the hotel brand evolved and so this had to be implemented at pace
