"Place" @ Bootique magazine installation, Brindleyplace, Birmingham

In its June 2001 edition Bootique magazine launched it's new design supplement "Place". We were commissioned to design an installation to promote its launch. The installation conveyed a "story" which commented on what it means to live a contemporary urban lifestyle, and therefore to be a Place reader. In short, how do we live our lives, what are our routines, our concerns, our pressures, and our pleasures?
Inspired by The Beatles song "A Day in the Life", 24 seemingly identical boxes which represent the 24 hours in a day are set into the time zones "see me", "hear me", "taste me", and "touch me". These relate to how our days are spent in the morning, through working, socialising, and relaxing. A key word on the door of each box offered a clue as to it's hidden contents.
The opening evening of the installation saw a huge crowd who were treated to food and drink, a DJ set, and a live blues band. Visitors were invited to reveal each of the box's "secret" product and the role it plays in our contemporary lives.
