Penthouse 06, Ludgate Lofts, Ludgate Hill, Birmingham
Client: Neil Emblen
Status: Completed September 1998 |
This unique, contemporary and spacious loft apartment set in an old warehouse was designed for a professional footballer. Although the loft shell had two levels, conventions were ignored as the living space were placed on the top floor with the private bedroom spaces below. This was principally done as the top floor was larger due to a flying freehold over the communal stairs below.
The existing shell space was respected by ensuring that all of the new additions were treated as interventions into the existing space and were designed to look as if they were floating and separate to the original. The new partition walls for example contained strip lights both top and bottom to give the appearance that they float. This play between the new and the old is further emphasised by materials, lighting, and colour.
