Client: Rawmarsh City Learning College
Status: Pre-planning stage - since developed by Rotherham Council |
The design is a contemporary pod which appears to float over the landscape before landing via an extended floorplate which extends out of the atrium space.
The design proposal had to incorporate an existing caretakers house and provide a series of new facilities such as music rooms, computer suites, seminar rooms, and a cafe. An atrium is used as an intermediate space between the existing building and the new accommodation and acts as breakout space. The proposal is environmentally aware with cross-ventilation, solar shading, and the use of a timber glulam structure.
key points
- dynamic section creating an exciting space to study
- extended floorplate provides DDA access
- small apertures on north face providing visual break for computer users
- concrete internal structure for acoustic purposes
