Contemporary Social Housing, Evesham, Worcestershire
Client: Rooftop Housing Group
Status: Feasibility stage |
The scheme replaces an alleyway of derelict garages on a long, narrow site in the heart of a housing community. The proposed houses are specifically designed to deal with the constraints of the site and location whilst offering contemporary and sustainable family living.
The design is for a series of three storey townhouses in a mews style arrangement which are angled in relation to the site boundary and view, and to maximise on the orientation for renewable energy purposes. The end of the mews is left open to allow views of a private steam railway line and also to maintain the established right of way. The units are cantilevered at first floor level to create a ground floor veranda space which provides physical and psychological separation from the passing vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The use of innovative "shared space" enhances this dual occupancy.
key points
- the mews houses are supplemented by 2 fully DDA compliant bungalow
- living spaces are located on the first floor to maximise views and daylight
- top floor utilises roof space for maximum efficiency
- aim of achieving Level 4 Code for Sustainable Homes
