"Flaxworks" mixed use development, Peckham, London
Client: Europan
Status: Europan 6 competition entry March 2001 |
Flaxworks is a proposal for a new way of living and working, a development incorporating residential, commercial, leisure, retail, and community activities. The design re-thinks the values and conventions of inner city developments.
The proposal knits itself into the existing surrounding urban fabric by fracturing itself to form two distinct urban spaces that are then threaded together by street line and permeable accommodation. These two squares offer contrasting types of urban space and help address the different levels across the site.
key points
- efficient cross wall construction of street facing accommodation relates to local typology
- detailed investigation of structural bay
- innovate car pool scheme for the time
- scheme developed via architectural diagramming process
