Concept office for Urban Splash, Fort Dunlop, Birmingham
Client: Urban Splash
Status: concept design/ feasibility study |
Following a number of successful commissions at Fort Dunlop, we worked with Urban Splash to develop a concept office for a typical office suite in the building, aimed at creative industries.
The design concept was to organise the office suite around a central spine, a ribbon, which acts as reception desk, breakout meeting space, storage, and workstations, as well as helping define circulation routes. Elsewhere, a curved wall defines a staff area for refreshments and photocopying, leading to a private office at the perimeter. The proposal could be predominantly be constructed off site and quickly inserted saving the tenant valuable time and money rather than using any rent free period for the fit-out time.
key points
- exciting alternative to traditional 'L' shaped desk arrangements or 'bench seating'
- concept allows the while space to 'breathe' by focusing on the centre of the space rather than the perimeter walls
- the centralised approach to the planning opens up views to the nearby M6 motorway
- pod-like hot desk stations mirror the aesthetics of the central ribbon
