Cawthorne & Wright hair salon, Oakham, Leicestershire
Client: Simon Cawthorne
Status: Completed May 2006 |
Two former garage workshops were knocked through into one leaving a design challenge to make the new space feel like one.
The newly created space was landlocked on 3 sides, thus seriously restricting the amount of daylight coming into the salon. A cleverly designed lighting scheme and the use of roof lanterns was needed to alleviate this problem. The salon has a reception, waiting and retail area, 13 cutting stations, and 6 backwash basins
key points
- new shopfront to make the most of the single aspect
- all back of house facilities located on first floor
- roof lantern creates a focal point and is mimicked by an adjacent ceiling raft
- coutoure flock wallpaper and vibrant colours contrast with the architectural minimalisml
