Bungalow refurbishment and extension, Aspley Heath, Milton Keynes
Client: Private
Status: Full planning permission obtained |
The existing bungalow is of typical 1960s housing stock, albeit in a slight prairie style, and is located in a picturesque conservation area but is no longer suitable for contemporary family life.
The proposed design creates a dwelling suitable for modern living by adding a second storey, albeit in the roofspace, and by incorporating the former garage into the main house as a gymnasium. The new roofline has been kept as low as possible in order to minimise its visual impact. Although the scheme is clearly contemporary it utilises features which are relevant to the area such as white render, dormer windows, and timber cladding.
key points
- the interior has open plan living accommodation
- the works will also include a series of energy performance improvements
- the existing property needs underpinning in order to support the new first floor
- our design for the adjacent coach house has also received planning permission for conversion into a one bedroom house
