Arto Factum furniture store, Fort Dunlop, Birmingham
Client: Arto factum
Status: Feasibility design |
Arto Factum is a unique retail experience combining antique furniture with contemporary design classics and digital art.
Designed for a long, thin unit at Fort Dunlop, the scheme is based around a series on lightweight interventions into the space which organise the merchandise and juxtapose the heaviness of the existing building. The large 'L' shaped features respect the structural grid of the building and create the 'room sets' for the furniture displays. A gallery area is set on a raised half level to make use of the units height, beneath which is valuable storage space for stock. A mezzanine floor is the final intervention upon which is a design office, and beneath which is an event space with a coffee and meeting area..
key points
- 'L' shaped interventions also house lighting
- central reception desk continues the intervention concept by appearing to be floating
- space is flexible enough to be able to hold art collection launches
- perspex purple fins help define roomsets in a subtle way and will glow when light hits them
